Belloost in Wales!

In our Blog Post this month we catch up with one of our competition winners from the Royal College Chiropractors Conference, Claire Smith from West Wales Chiropractors…

“I’m Claire and I’m one of the Chiropractors at West Wales Chiropractors. I work alongside Peter and Chris between the clinics at Blaenporth, Carmarthen and Milford Haven. After trying my Belloost pillow at both of the clinics, we now have one at each!

“"I mainly work from Blaenporth which is a rural clinic on the west coast of wales. I’m one of the only female, welsh speaking chiropractors in the area so I tend to see a lot of ladies, although we see a range of male and female patients from newborn upwards. I suffered with pelvic girdle pain while I was pregnant with my own children and this has given me a particular interest in helping mums to be, plus it’s always nice to have a baby cuddle once they’re born!

“I love my belloost pillow because it’s so versatile. It’s great for using with pregnant ladies but I’ve also used it for a patient after breast cancer surgery, for someone who had undergone abdominal surgery and thought they couldn’t lie on their front, and for my bustier patients who find it difficult to lie face down on a flat bench. I’ve also had one very imaginative little boy who turned it over and used it as a boat to play in! It’s a hard-wearing pillow that is easy to wipe down and is perfect for using in clinic.

“One of the most common treatments I use my Belloost pillow for, is when I treat pregnant ladies with pelvic girdle pain. I find that the pillow is very supportive and allows me to do all the techniques that I feel are necessary while keeping my ladies comfortable. Another common complaint that I use my pillow for, is treating ladies with upper back pain caused by a larger bust. The pillow is firm enough to allow a normal treatment while not struggling to keep boobs under control! I would definitely give my Belloost pillow 5 stars and recommend it to everyone.”

Celebrating World Breast Feeding Week

To celebrate World Breast Feeding Week, we've caught up with Helen Harding, a chiropractor and Breastfeeding Peer Supporter in North West England, on what a difference Belloost has made to the way she treats pregnant women and babies.

Helen has been in practice in the North West since graduating in 2005, then finally taking the plunge and opening her own clinic in Chester in 2013.

“My passion is the treatment of pregnant women and babies, and I believe that chiropractic check-ups are an important part of a healthy pregnancy. I’ve been extremely privileged to treat lots of mums-to-be throughout all stages of their pregnancy. I love nothing more than coming into a clinic full of bumps and babies every day, however chaotic…and noisy that can sometimes be!”

“I’ve also trained as a breastfeeding peer supporter. The knowledge I have gained from this is invaluable, as I see many babies with feeding problems. Chiropractic treatment in conjunction with gentle cranial techniques can help to relieve tension patterns in infants that may have formed whilst the baby is developing or following a difficult or traumatic birth.

Favourite Features of Belloost include…

I love the colour! Mine is bright orange…..it matches my chairs!!”

The support. It’s firm, without being hard, and incredibly comfortable to lie on. I can vouch for this, as I loved receiving treatment on my Belloost pillow when I was pregnant. I may have even sneaked off for a nap or two in Clinic before I started my maternity leave!”

The shoulder cutouts provide a place to put your hands when pushing up to get off the bench. Genius. Other pillows I have used don’t have this, making it a tricky and unsteady procedure when pregnant.”

How Belloost has helped me treat patients…

“Some women come with no symptoms at all, but wanting chiropractic support throughout pregnancy, others with pain or discomfort. I see lots of women throughout all stages of pregnancy and they have all have found the Belloost pillow comfortable and supportive.”

“Belloost is by far the best pregnancy pillow I have used in practice and would whole heartedly recommend it to any practitioner caring for pregnant women. I give Belloost 5/5 stars!”

Belloost catch up with competition winner, Richard Ridings from the BCA Spring Conference!

Our blog post this month is from our Competition Winner at the BCA  Spring Conference back in March, Richard Ridings.

Richard is an experienced chiropractor and has been treating in chiropractic clinics for over 10 years. His current practice, Purity Chiro is based in Dudley and they treat many pregnant ladies in the local area. Here is what he has to say about his new Belloost pillow:

"Pregnant patients love laying on it as it is the only time they get to lay forwards in mid to late pregnancy and actually be comfortable. It is much easier than arranging cushions.

I have also found it is more comfortable for non-pregnant women in certain situations, for instance after breast augmentation or abdominal surgery.

The height and firmness would seem to give a good clearance in late pregnancy. My fiancée, who is currently pregnant, is very excited to put it to the test as she gets bigger in the next few months (due in November)!

I would happily rate the Belloost pillow 5/5 stars.  It tidies away nicely on a hook in the equipment cupboard rather than being constantly in the way like every other pregnancy cushion I have ever used!

I will be purchasing an additional one for my next clinic when it opens!

Thank you very much once again - very pleased!"

Hypopressives Trainer

Polly has also recently qualified as a level 1 hypopressives trainer! Because Polly looks after lots of expectant mums and postnatal women she felt that becoming a Hypopressives Trainer would really complement the Chiropractic care she gives.

We asked Polly a series of questions about her Belloost pillow and this is what she had to say:

What are your favourite features of your Belloost pillow?

·     The bright, vibrant colours- mine is in the colour of my logo!

·     The fact that patients find it so comfy and supportive.

·     It's also not as big and bulky as my previous pregnancy pillow.

What conditions have patients been coming in with and how has Belloost helped you to treat them?

I see lots of pregnant women - some with no symptoms but seeking pregnancy care, breech presentations, lower back pain, pelvic girdle pain.

Is there anyone you would/wouldn't recommend Belloost to?

I would recommend all chiropractors/ osteopaths/ massage therapists/ physios have one in their clinic

If you had to rate it out of 5 stars what would you give?

5!

Is there anything you would change about Belloost?

Not that I can think of!

Making treatments flow more smoothly with Belloost!

Our latest blog post this month features positive feed back from Chiropractor Lowrie Bell, who has been using Belloost within her practice, L J Chiropractic.

When I first started out as a Chiropractor I would often have pregnant patients in and struggle to make them comfortable during treatments without a pregnancy pillow. I have used one or two others in clinics I have worked in which were fine, then borrowed a Belloost from a colleague to try and have never looked back.

Patients always comment on how comfortable they feel, my treatments flow more smoothly which makes for better results. The colour range is amazing and they look good in the clinic. So, well done on creating a fabulous product and for the wonderful service.

What are your favourite features of belloost?

I love the choice of colours for a start! The Belloost is comfortable for patients to lie on and the hook on the top allows it to be hung out of the way. It’s wipes down easily too!

What conditions have patients been coming in with and how has Belloost helped you to treat them?

I treat pregnant women, obviously!

Allowing them to lie comfortably on their front and relax during a treatment.

I also use it for patients with osteoporosis as the bench is hard to lie on and it allows me to cushion the anterior ribs during soft tissue work instead of doing a seated treatment. Ladies with big busts also find it more comfortable.

It allows for drops to be used easily for sacroiliac joint issues.

Is there anyone you would/wouldn't recommend Belloost to?

 Not at all!

If you had to rate it out of 5 stars what would you give?

10 :) definitely a full 5 stars!

An Osteopath's Feedback: Miranda Clayton trials the Belloost Pillow

Our latest blog post this month features positive feed back from an Osteopath who has been trialling Belloost within her practice.

Miranda Clayton is a Registered Osteopath with 20 years experience in treating babies, children and in pregnancy. In addition to her private practice in central London, she lectures extensively in Paediatric, Obstetric & Cranial Osteopathy on a number of B.Sc. & M.Sc. Osteopathy courses and runs post graduate training courses with her company ‘Mum&Baby CPD’. More recently she has produced a range of training videos on various aspects of early life manual treatment.

What are your favourite features of Belloost?

It is clearly a quality item and everyone in our workshop thought it looked gorgeous and was also good value.

The stuff it’s made out of is exactly the right firmness to be comfortable, whilst also being supportive enough to perform high velocity thrusts without loosing the force into the pillow.

It looks well made enough to last for years and years without loosing its integrity.

Its very stable on the couch, whilst also being easily portable to take from room to room. Useful in our clinic where it is being shared by Osteopaths and all the massage therapists.

What techniques has Belloost helped you to perform more easily?

Prone sacral toggle/recoil techniques – can be performed sidelying on pregnant women but much easier prone.

For some pregnant women, who are naturally front sleepers, they really appreciated soft tissue releases/myo-fascial techniques prone – in fact I just left one very heavily pregnant woman to lie in the Belloost for 20 minutes and she loved it!

As an osteopath does Belloost increase the range of techniques you can use on pregnant women?

Very few Osteopathic techniques can only be done prone, but it certainly makes it easier having prone position available. Treating in the prone position is usually very comfortable for practitioners themselves, and we do have to consider our own bodies when we treat.

What conditions have patients been coming in with and how has Belloost helped you to treat them?

Pelvic girdle syndrome, sacro-iliac joint dysfunction, 12th rib techniques, thoraco-lumbar fascial releases. Of course Osteopaths treat all these things, sidelying, seated, standing or on all fours, but it clearly opens up ones treatment options.

Do you think it would be a useful tool to use Belloost when teaching your courses?

It was lovely to have it in the class for students/Osteopaths to lie in and have a play with. One of the Osteopaths in the class said she already owned a Bellost and found it particularly useful for prone soft tissue techniques through both thoracics and lumbars. Osteopaths who like to treat prone were very taken with it – those that rarely do prone techniques were variable in their opinions.

Is there anyone you would/wouldn't recommend Belloost to?

No I think it’s suitable for everyone and of particular interest to pregnancy massage practitioners.

If you had to rate it out of 5 stars what would you give?

4.9

Belloost... Far More Versatile than for Just During Pregnancy

We are always pleased to receive positive feedback from chiropractors who are using Belloost on a regular basis. In our latest blog post, Dr Richard McWilliam from Alba Chiropractic loved the Belloost pillow so much that they bought a second one! Read how using Belloost has not just helped their pregnant patients but other patients too!

"We’ve used our belloost pillow in clinic for some time now and find its far more versatile than for just during pregnancy.

"Patients with IBS & abdominal discomfort, older or larger patients, a sensitive chest or post surgery can all benefit using a Belloost pillow. The comfort it gives while lying on a bench means we have far more treatment options available to us, allowing us to give our patients the best of care. It's also guaranteed to break the ice on that first visit!"
